Refractories: Managing Heat
Refractories are non-metallic materials having chemical and physical properties, that make them applicable for structures or as components of systems, that are exposed to environments above 600°C (ASTM C71). The huge product range, the large variety of raw materials used as well as the different installation processes employed therefore require the correct choice of binder and additive to achieve high performance material. Budenheim can advise on the best choice of product to use in the various applications, offering phosphate-based, inorganic chemical binders and additives FFB® Bond, Flow, Set, Coat and FABUTIT® SH. A great variety of minerals and raw materials containing the following typical oxides are used for the production of refractory materials. There are two main groups of raw materials for refractories: SiO2, Al2O3, Cr2O3 and ZrO2 are classified as non-basic materials, while MgO and CaO are basic materials. Carbon/graphite are often used individually or in combination with these oxides.
