Casting compounds

Monolithic refractory elements are cast in one piece when complex forms prevent manufacturing by stamping or pressing. The basic material is, in turn, a mixture of refractory substances prepared for the special application, while the binding agent employed for casting compounds is predominantly alumina cement.

Liquefaction, acceleration and increased structural stability

To ensure optimum results, the refractory casting compound must be as dense as possible and free of air bubbles. This means that the compound must have a good casting consistency. The use of phosphates means that the volume of mixing water required for casting compounds may be reduced while maintaining comparable consistencies. In addition to the liquefaction effect, phosphates also enable accelerated setting and hardening and, as a result of the improved ceramic matrix, a higher structural stability of the elements cast.
This function as a setting accelerator is particularly significant when using the casting compounds at low temperatures.
